FREE Magic School Bus Science Curriculum

FREE Magic School Bus Science Curriculum ~ Our Cozy Den

I think most people know that The Magic School Bus is an awesome educational resource — jam-packed full of science facts and lessons, packaged in a way that kids love: fun, engaging, and entertaining.

But how do we turn an educational television show into a full-on science curriculum?

I’m here to share how we did it in our home!

I was able to find some great worksheets to go with the episodes (credit to them here), but figuring out how to actually turn it into a curriculum was a big hot mess. I spent a lot of hours compiling and organizing everything and writing lesson plans so YOU can use it in your homeschool like we did!

This FREE downloadable curriculum pack includes 3 parts:

1. Lesson Plans

The lesson plans tell you exactly what you’ll be learning this week, which episode corresponds with the lesson, and what unique supplies you need for the lesson (things outside the normal school supplies like paper and glue).

2. Experiments

Each episode comes with a corresponding hands-on activity. Actually doing things makes the lesson sink in far more than just watching a tv show! The kids will love seeing the episode and then having an activity to go with it.

3. Activity Page Worksheets

Each episode (with the exception of 3 of them) has a worksheet/activity page. Many times, this goes along with the experiment, but sometimes it is a standalone activity. You’ll want to print a page for each student.

These lessons are geared toward students in grades K-5. Personally, we did it with kids in grades pre-k, Kindergarten, 2nd, and 4th, and they all enjoyed it — despite the age differences.

What a Typical Lesson Will Look Like:

  1. Put on the episode for the students to watch. It will take about 22 minutes. Use this time to check Facebook & Instagram set up the experiment.
  2. When the episode is over, do the activity while discussing the concepts they learned.
  3. Then have students complete the activity pages.

Why I Love This

  1. It’s all planned out for you. No lesson planning for mom = free time!
  2. It’s fun & entertaining for the kids. They will love watching cartoons during school!
  3. You get 22 minutes of free time in the school day to get something else done. I don’t know about you, but I can always use a few extra minutes, as my to-do list is neverending.
  4. It covers tons of different types of science: life science, earth science, anatomy, and more!

Where to Find the Episodes

  1. Personally, I like having the DVDs. They are convenient and great for road trips. They go on sale often on amazon, and I’ve seen them for as low as $16.95 for the set. {Current price is $29.95, but that changes often.}
  2. They are currently streaming free on Netflix if you have it!
  3. Search for the episode on YouTube here.

And finally, your FREE download!

Diane — I checked it from several computers/browsers, and it is working fine on my end. If you are on your phone, can you try from a computer? It’s a pdf file, so you may also need to have a pdf viewer.
