Circle Time with Little Ones {with FREE printable!}

Circle Time was something I did every day with my older kids when they were younger. Somewhere along the way we moved on to bigger kid stuff and older kid subjects, and Circle Time got lost. About 18 months ago I started back up again with my younger two kids, because I felt like they were missing out (and even my 7 year old joins us of her own free will) — it’s just better to start the day with some dancing and fun! This is how we do it!! 1. Prayer One of my kids will open us up in prayer, to pray a Read More

DIY Thankful Tree

One of my favorite November traditions is making a Thankful Tree. At the beginning of the month, we put leaves on the tree with all the things we are thankful for. Then each day, we take down a leaf, and say prayers of thanksgiving for that thing. In years past, I usually hand cut a tree out of construction paper, and hand cut all the little leaves. It. was. exhausting. I decided this year that I was going to make a nice reusable tree. I was able to get all the supplies for only $3 (I only bought 2 items and I already had the rest). Read More

And so it begins: 7

If you follow me on facebook, you probably know that I’ve been posting about this book I read recently, 7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess. I challenged my friends to read the book with me, and one motivated friend took it a step farther and created a facebook group for us all. So what is 7, you might ask? It’s about learning to fast, Bible-style. Giving up on the comforts of our cushy American lives, so we can focus on what’s really important. It’s 7 months long, with a different focus each month. And now, today, we begin day 1 of month 1: FOOD. Can Read More

A New View on some very Old Words

Today I was reading The Purpose-Driven Life by Rick Warren. It’s a fabulous book so far, and I’m enjoying it very much. Anyway, in chapter 3, Rick quoted a Bible verse that made me pause. I felt certain I had never heard that verse before. I flipped to the index to find the details about it, and discovered that it’s from The Message translation of the Bible. I usually read NIV (the New International Version). The Message is a paraphrase translation, which I do not usually care to read. I like getting my Bible in the purest form I can. I like to look up Read More

Listening

I think that one of the ways God talks to us is by showing us the same thing over and over. It can happen through the written word (both the Bible and elsewhere), a song, a sign we pass on the road, or even a simple statement from a friend. This has happened to me many times, and I am always in awe of the amazing ways He chooses to reach us. I wanted to share a few things that I think God has been telling me recently: 1. Pray Specifically In the past, especially when I was a new Christian, I didn’t feel I Read More

Resolutions of Prayer

My New Year’s Resolutions this year are all about prayer. 1. I resolve to give my worries to God. I need to stop obsessing about the details, because I have no clue of knowing what my future holds. I need to trust that He will take care of us, no matter what. 2. I resolve to pray for my husband and my children. I don’t just want to pray for their current struggles, which is something I frequently do. I want to pray for their character, their willpower to stand against darkness in this sinful world, and their futures. I want to pray for my Read More
