How (& why!) to Send Documents to Kindle 📄📲 ~ Our Cozy Den

How (& why!) to Send Documents to Kindle 📄📲

I’m a busy busy mom. Sometimes I barely have time to gather my thoughts before they’re racing in another direction. Homeschooling four kids is no cake walk, so I take all the shortcuts I can get. This is one of my favorite time-saving life hacks: sending documents to my Kindle devices for easy access! It’s not a new concept. Kindle has had this feature for years. But I realized recently that a lot of people didn’t know about it when I shared with my Thursday afternoon Bible Study group that they could do it with the new book we were reading (which was in ebook Read More

How to Plan a Great Homeschool Campout {with FREE printable itinerary!}

How to Plan a Homeschool Campout ⛺️ {with FREE printable itinerary!📋}

We are rather new to camping. We started in 2015, when our youngest was just about to turn 4. He was potty trained and old enough to skip naps if needed, and it seemed the perfect time to venture into the great outdoors >>gulp<< overnight. My husband and I had both camped as kids, but it is NOT the same thing as an adult, being responsible for feeding people without a kitchen and packing all of the necessary gear. But we managed to survive a night in our local area, later to be followed by 10 days of touring the beautiful Great Lakes. The following Spring Read More

Save Money 💰 by Buying Groceries Online 🖥📦

A few months ago, Walmart rolled out a new plan to combat the ever-growing monster known as Amazon. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Amazon, but they don’t always have the best deals one groceries and perishables. When they do, it’s a little more complicated with the Subscribe & Save options, getting 5 items before your ship date for the extra savings,  and having to remember to cancel. (Read more about how to save on Amazon here.) One of the reasons I love Walmart’s new plan is because it’s SO EASY. I can pull it up on my phone and get a box of groceries delivered Read More

I Quit Facebook 🚫📱 {why, how, & how it changed me}

The past several months have been a tumultuous roller-coaster ride in several facets. Our family’s schedule has been all over the place, either completely crazy or absolute stillness: no in-between. I’m working on finding balance there. My health has been a wreck, with the onset of calcaneal spurring and plantar fasciitis, which is a fancy way of saying I could barely walk for 6 weeks. I’m finally coming out of that. Lastly, and this is the hardest one to admit… my doctor said I had a small bout of depression. I had broken down in his office because I was so frustrated with life right Read More

Ways to save money on printing! ~ Our Cozy Den

Ways to Save on Printing!

As homeschoolers, our printer gets some serious mileage. As I mentioned in my post about the ways that homeschooling is cheaper than public school, there is a plethora of free curriculum available online, but a lot of it requires that you print-print-print. This can really add up over time, and you know frugal-me: I’m always  looking for places to trim the budget! Here are some of the ways that I’ve considerably reduced the amount we spend on printing — from the ink to the paper to the printer itself! 1. Choose your printer wisely. I had an HP printer for several years, and it seemed to Read More

Our Trip to Edventure Children's Museum (in Columbia, SC)

Edventure Children’s Museum

Lately I’ve been filling up our summer calendar, and it got me reflecting on some of our outings from last year! I realized I never shared about this place, so here’s a bit about it in case you find yourself in Columbia, SC. I love any excuse to turn a vacation into a field trip. I guess that’s one of the side effects of being a homeschooling family! Last summer, we took a trip to South Carolina to watch my husband graduate from the Chaplain school at Ft. Jackson. While we were there, I was looking for some things to do to entertain the kids Read More

Why We Got a Mortgage 🏡 {when we could've paid cash💰} ~ Our Cozy Den

Why We Got a Mortgage 🏡 {when we could’ve paid cash💰}

Here on the blog, I try to be very transparent about our finances, our budget, & our spending. I think it really helps people to see that it’s possible to live a frugal lifestyle if they can see exactly how much we spend, what our weekly grocery budget looks like, and other details about our lives. Lately, we’ve found ourselves in a (slightly-stressful) and different financial situation from our normal, so I thought I’d be open with you all about that too! Our Recent Transition On this date 3 years ago, we paid cash for a home. We had just moved to Findlay, Ohio so that Read More

Designed To Pray GIVEAWAY ~ from Our Cozy Den

🖼 Designed to Pray 🙏 {✨GIVEAWAY!🌟}

I mentioned in my last post that I’ve been going through a rough patch lately. I thought that a great way to get back into the swing of things would be to do another giveaway, and at the same time share a product that has been incredibly helpful and inspirational to me during these past few months. Let me introduce Designed to Pray by Kelly O’Dell Stanley. I picked up this book in a book store about 6 months ago. Immediately when I flipped through it, I was intrigued by the concept of speaking to God in different ways besides my old standards: speaking and writing. This Read More
