How we use Story of the World with multiple grades {win a FULL SET of activity pages!}

I have been using Story of the World as our history curriculum ever since I started homeschooling… about 8 years ago now! I absolutely love how comprehensive it is. At least half of the stuff in there is completely new to me, never even touched on by my own sub-par public school education! Over the years, my teaching methods for SOTW have changed. When I first started with young elementary students, I basically just read the stories and they would color the coloring pages. As they approached older elementary, we added in more interactive experiments and map work and activities and field trips. Meandering into Read More

Work Hard Play Hard: How to make your #BucketList ACTUALLY happen.

In today’s world, we are constantly being pulled in a thousand directions at once. We get sucked into a task, and every ping from our phones pulls us away from it. Before you know it, we are pulled into a neverending round of “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” and you can’t remember where you left your brain, much less what you were doing. I get questions all the time from friends who genuinely want to know — how do I have so many things on my bucket list and how do I get them all done?!?  There are several simple answers to this: 1) Read More

Microwave Personal Pizza ~ low-carb, keto, & THM-S ~ Our Cozy Den

Microwave Personal Pizza 🍕{low-carb, keto, THM-S}

Raise your hand if this ever happens to you: you make dinner for your kids– maybe that’s leftovers or sandwiches or frozen waffles because you just-can’t-even right now– and then you realize that you are starving and have nothing to eat for yourself. It can be exhausting to make a healthy dinner for yourself. It feels, well, selfish. Options like my cauliflower crust pizza are yummy, but they can also be time consuming. So I created this little recipe with some trial and error, and I’m super pleased with the result! Here are the reasons why I love it: 🌟 It’s super easy and fast– I Read More

Our Central American Cruise ~ Roatan, Honduras ~ Our Cozy Den

Our Central American Cruise ⛴ {chapter 2} ☀️ Roatán, Honduras 🇭🇳

On my last post about our big family cruise, I gave you all a tour of our fabulous ship: the Norwegian Getaway! Today, I’m here to share about what we did in port at Roatán, Honduras– and my favorite part: how we were able to turn it into a mini-mission trip! So first of all, let me tell you a little bit about the port: Roatán is an island and part of Honduras. Because of its separation from the mainland, life on the island is very expensive and common items are hard to come by. Fuel and utilities are extremely costly. Tourism is the main Read More

FREE US Presidents homeschool curriculum from Our Cozy Den

🌟FREE🌟 US Presidents Homeschool Curriculum! 🇺🇸

A few weeks ago, I shared with everyone our 2018 Homeschool Curriculum choices. In that post, I briefly mentioned that we’re doing a U.S. Presidents study with all four kids this year. We’ve been using Story of the World history for several years, and while I love it, it does not go into very great detail about American presidents. So I decided to supplement our history lessons this year with an in-depth look at all 45 Presidents. I want the kids to at least be familiar with all of them on some level! I’m going to give you a rundown on how we do this — Read More

Central American Cruise ☀️ {chapter 1} ⛴ Tour of the Norwegian Getaway!

We had our first big family cruise a few months ago, and I can’t wait to tell you all about our adventures in Central America! I’m going to start this blog series by giving you a tour of our ship: the Norwegian Getaway! Y’all, I am a researcher. I spend hours poring over internet reviews, blogs, YouTube videos, deal sites, and every piece of information I can get my hands on. So I can tell you that I did not choose the Norwegian Getaway lightly. I ended up choosing it because it was 1) going places I wanted to see, 2) an absolutely amazing ship Read More

Our 2018 Homeschool Curriculum

We have kicked off our 2018 homeschool year with a bang! If you’re new to Our Cozy Den, I should start by saying that we do a non-traditional school year. We follow the calendar year instead of the traditional Labor Day through Memorial Day calendar. This allows us to take off 6 weeks for Advent (basically, Thanksgiving through New Years) and we start fresh in January with new grades &  new curriculum! {Click here if you want to read more about why we love this!!}  Today, I’m going to give you a rundown on some of the curricula we are using for this year!  I Read More

Living a life of adventure on a frugal budget! ~ Our Cozy Den

Grand Adventures!

The past three months have been a whirlwind of adventure! I can’t wait to share more of it with you! I’ve had the opportunity to do some amazing things, including visiting 5 new countries (Sweden, Finland, Honduras, Belize, & Mexico) and checking FOUR things off my bucket list (skydiving, family cruise, visiting Chichen Itza, and seeing Ik-Kil Cenote). I can’t wait to share photos and lessons learned from all of these fabulous experiences. Now, after the hustle and bustle of the holidays, we are settling back into life as normal, and trying to get into our routine. Here is a sneak peek of some of Read More
