Easy DIY French Fries

Easy DIY French Fries ~ Our Cozy Den I was supposed to write this blog post on Friday.

And then Saturday.

And then Sunday.

But I had four sick kids and a husband who was gone for the weekend for Army Reserve training, so let’s just say I didn’t accomplish much.

Anyways, here I am bright and early Monday morning, ready to start the week anew and get life back in order! Thanks for bearing with me!

We love french fries. They are a perfect accompaniment to many favorites: sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, cheeseburger calzones, chicken fingers, and lots of other things! But buying the bagged frozen french fries is both expensive and unhealthy.

I experimented with lots of different french fry recipes before perfecting this one!

Ingredients:

  • 1 potato per person
  • olive oil
  • garlic powder
  • chili powder

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 425°.

Now, wash your potatoes.

Then slice them 3 or 4 times longways.

Turn and slice them 3 or 4 times the other way. (If you find this tricky, separate into 2 piles with the flat sides down.)

Then I discovered that these “food and bread” bags are SO much cheaper, so I use them for a lot of my small jobs that don’t need a zip-closure. (75 bags for $1 at Dollar Tree!)

Into the bag, add this:

1 Tbsp olive oil, 1 tsp garlic powder, and 1/2 tsp chili powder for every 4 potatoes.

Twist up the bag with plenty of air, and shake like crazy to coat evenly.

Pour onto a baking sheet, in an even layer so they all touch the bottom.

After 20 minutes, flip ’em.

{TIP! When flipping, I find this the easiest way: Loosen them all with a spatula to make sure none are stuck. Then lay an identical cookie sheet on top of this one and quickly flip them both over. Put the new cookie sheet in the oven. Presto change-o!}

Another 20 minutes, and they are done!

Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside: perfect french fries!
