Weekly Menu: May 8th-14th

Weekly Menus from Our Cozy Den ~ Feeding a family of 6 on under $175 a month!

It seems like not that long ago I would regularly spend $100-150 a week at the grocery store. This week I spent $42 and it was an oddly large week for me — most weeks now I spend under $20! It’s a weird feeling to spend so little, but also very cool and freeing to know that we have been able to change our lifestyles so drastically!

Let’s take a look at this week’s menu, shall we?

As usual, a few notes before we get started:

  • Breakfast is not included in the menu, because in our house it is fend-for-yourself. But it is included in my budget and shopping. We pretty much eat oatmeal & eggs every day, with the occasional variance.
  • Snacks are also not on the menu, but my kids do get a snack each afternoon around 4 pm. Their choices are veggies (usually carrots and celery), fruit (I always have on hand a selection of oranges, bananas, apples, pineapple, berries, etc.), hard-boiled eggs, cheddar cheese sticks, yogurt, and granola bars.

Sunday:

Lunch ~ it’s Mother’s Day, so I want to go to my favorite Mexican place, where they have 99¢ kids meals on Sundays! Our whole family can eat for under $20, which is cheaper than even fast food for our family of 6!

Dinner ~ leftovers

Monday:

Lunch ~ vegetable soup with crackers & fruit

Dinner ~ spaghetti & meatballs with homemade garlic bread (and zucchini noodles instead of pasta for me!)

Tuesday:

Lunch ~ sandwiches (peanut butter with jelly or honey or turkey and cheese) with fresh fruits and veggies

Dinner ~ seasoned stir-fry chicken, vegetables, & brown rice

Wednesday:

Lunch ~ black bean quesadillas with fruit

Dinner ~ leftovers

Thursday:

Lunch ~ vegetable soup with crackers & fruit

Dinner ~ chicken & broccoli pesto penne

Friday:

Lunch ~ sandwiches (peanut butter with jelly or honey or turkey and cheese) with fresh fruits and veggies

Dinner ~ crockpot ham casserole

Saturday:

What I spent this week:

Here is my receipt from Walmart this week.

Weekly Menus from Our Cozy Den ~ Feeding a family of SIX for less than $175/month!

Like I said before, I got quite a lot this week. Here’s the rundown: 5 dozen eggs, almond milk, a box of cereal for me (Mother’s Day treat!), 2 boxes of oatmeal, tortilla chips, broccoli, 2 packages of corn tortillas, potatoes, bananas, zucchini, raspberries, bread, apples, and oranges.

As you can see, about half of my haul was fruits & veggies. Total spent: $42.32!
