DIY Tator Tots

DIY Tator Tots ~ Our Cozy Den

I love tator tots! Who doesn’t? They are crispy and delicious! But one thing I don’t like is the price. Even a small bag costs $3-$4 at the supermarket. They can be made from scratch much cheaper, and I’m here to tell you how!

Ingredients:

5 potatoes

2 tsp. corn starch

1 tsp garlic powder

oil for frying

Directions:

1. Boil your potatoes whole for 20-25 minutes, to make sure they are cooked through.

{My photos will show a much larger quantity, because I was tripling the recipe when I made it.}

2. When they are cooked, pull them out to cool completely. (If you can refrigerate overnight, that will be even better!) DIY Tator Tots ~ Our Cozy Den

3. Peel the skins off (stubborn spots may require a knife, but usually it comes off pretty easily). DIY Tator Tots ~ Our Cozy Den

4. Use a cheese grater to grate the potatoes. DIY Tator Tots ~ Our Cozy Den

5. To the grated potatoes, add the corn starch and garlic powder. Stir well. DIY Tator Tots ~ Our Cozy Den

6. Grab small handfuls, roll into a small ball, and flatten the ends to make them tator-tot-shaped.

7. I forgot to take a photo of my finished tots, because we ate them so fast! But once they are shaped, you just need to fry them up in a little oil until the edges are crispy. They can then be enjoyed fresh, or frozen for later use!

Easy, right?
