Weekly Menu: January 24th-30th {& January Bulk Shop!}

Weekly Menus from Our Cozy Den ~ Feeding a family of 6 on under $250 a month!

We have a very special birthday tomorrow — my little Lia turns EIGHT. I plan on sharing more about our family’s birthday celebrations later, but I wanted to bring it up because part of our celebrations is letting the birthday child choose breakfast, lunch, & dinner on their special day! So take note that Tuesday’s menu was completely planned by Lia!

Here’s what we are eating this week!

As usual, a few notes before we get started:

  • Breakfast is not included in the menu, because in our house it is fend-for-yourself. But it is included in my budget and shopping. We pretty much eat oatmeal & eggs every day, with the occasional variance.
  • Snacks are also not on the menu, but my kids do get a snack each afternoon around 4 pm. Their choices are veggies (usually carrots and celery from my garden), fruit (I always have on hand a selection of oranges, bananas, apples, pineapple, berries, etc.), hard-boiled eggs, cheddar cheese sticks, yogurt, and granola bars.

Sunday:

Lunch ~ sandwiches (peanut butter with jelly or honey, or turkey and cheese) with fresh fruits and veggies

Dinner ~ leftovers

Monday:

Lunch ~ vegetable soup with yogurt

Dinner ~ leftovers

Tuesday:

Lunch ~ black bean quesadillas with fruit

Dinner ~ chicken enchiladas with Spanish rice and black beans

Wednesday:

Lunch ~ #FieldTripWednesday — We’re heading out of town, so I’m not sure yet if we’re packing lunches or stopping somewhere. It will probably depend on how quickly I get ready in the morning!

Dinner ~ roasted turkey with mashed sweet potatoes and green beans

Thursday:

Lunch ~ vegetable soup with yogurt

Dinner ~ shredded chicken {turkey} sandwiches with homemade fries and fruit

Friday:

Lunch ~ sandwiches (peanut butter with jelly or honey, or turkey and cheese) with fresh fruits and veggies

Dinner ~ turkey noodle casserole with vegetables

Saturday:

Lunch ~ black bean quesadillas with fruit

Dinner ~ leftovers

What I spent this week:

I didn’t get anything from Walmart this week (not groceries at least, just a few birthday supplies), but I did go to Gordon Food Service for my monthly bulk shop, so here is my receipt from GFS:

Weekly Menus from Our Cozy Den ~ Feeding a family of SIX for less than $200/month!

Here is a list of what I bought (and how long I expect it to last):

  • Shredded mozzarella cheese (3 months)
  • Shredded cheddar cheese (3 months)
  • Garlic powder (18 months)
  • Onion powder (18 months)
  • Big (106 oz) can of tomato sauce (technically I used it all already to make enchilada sauce, so it lasted 1 day… but the enchilada sauce should be about a year’s supply, maybe 18 months)
  • 15 dozen eggs (6 weeks)

I had a coupon for $5 off a $50 purchase, so my total purchase was $50.74.

This brings my total grocery bill for the month to $83.36!
