December Bulk Shop {& yearly totals!}

Bulk Shopping at GFS ~ Our Cozy Den

Each week when I post my weekly menus, I share that most of my groceries come from my bulk shopping trips to Gordon Food Service. Today I’m going to show you what I got this month (and how much it cost) — as well as my monthly average for the year!

My purchases and how long I expect them to last:

  • 15 dozen eggs (2 months)
  • 1 gallon olive/canola oil blend — I usually buy just olive oil, but they were out, so I bought the blend. (6 months)
  • 1 canister of oatmeal (3 weeks)
  • Large case of sausage links (6 months)

My total for all of these items was $53.76, but I had a coupon for $10 off a $50 purchase, so that took me down to $43.76. I also earned 302 GO points with this transaction, which in the future will be worth a few dollars off another purchase. I usually let them add up until I have $5-10 then I redeem them.

I also headed to Aldi this week to pick up some of their sales. They had boneless skinless chicken breasts for $1.49/pound, so that was a price I couldn’t pass up!

While I was there I snatched up some of their great produce deals too! (99¢ pineapples and cheap berries!)

TONS of chicken — this will last us a while! Total spent at Aldi: $45.41. That makes my bulk shopping total for today $89.17.

December totals

Since this is my last menu post of the month, here are my totals for groceries this month:

December total grocery bill: $190.99! Not bad, especially for the holidays!

2015 Averages

This is also my last menu post of 2015, so I thought it would be fun to average up my grocery bills since I started blogging the details. {You can see all of my weekly breakdowns on this page here.}

My total spending from July-December was $1034.12. Divided by 6 months, it’s an average of $172.35 per month! I’ve decided to reduce my grocery budget for 2016 from $250 to $200, still leaving a little extra room for the higher months, or bulk sales as they happen.

Thank you to all of you who have been reading and enjoying my budget posts. I’m getting lots of comments on facebook and private messages about how it has been helping your family to save. I feel very blessed to be a part of your journey! Let’s make 2016 amazing!!! 💕🙌
