Weekly Menu: November 29th – December 5th

Weekly Menus from Our Cozy Den ~ Feeding a family of 6 on under $250 a month!

Christmas time is here! I love this season — we take the whole month off from both school and work, so it’s nothing but FAMILY TIME. It’s my favorite time of year!

Let’s take a look at our menu for the first week of Advent!

As usual, a few notes before we get started:

  • Breakfast is not included in the menu, because in our house it is fend-for-yourself. But it is included in my budget and shopping. We pretty much eat oatmeal & eggs every day, with the occasional variance.
  • I recently did a post about my large once-a-month pantry shop. I try to plan most of my menu to use what we already have on hand in the pantry and freezer. Bulk buying = BIG savings!
  • Snacks are also not on the menu, but my kids do get a snack each afternoon around 4 pm. Their choices are veggies (usually carrots and celery from my garden), fruit (I always have on hand a selection of oranges, bananas, apples, pineapple, berries, etc.), hard-boiled eggs, cheddar cheese sticks, yogurt, and granola bars.

Here’s what we are eating this week:

Sunday:

Lunch ~ leftovers from Thanksgiving

Dinner ~ leftovers from Thanksgiving

Monday:

Lunch ~ homemade chicken noodle & vegetable soup with homemade applesauce

Dinner ~ more leftovers from Thanksgiving

Tuesday:

Lunch ~ black bean quesadillas with fruit

Dinner ~ open faced pizza burgers

Wednesday:

Lunch ~ sandwiches (peanut butter with jelly or honey, or turkey and cheese) with fresh fruits and veggies

Dinner ~ Family Dinner Night at church

Thursday:

Lunch ~ hot dogs with homemade fries

Dinner ~ chicken enchilada casserole with brown rice, black beans, quesadillas, and chips and salsa {we’re having dinner guests!}

Friday:

Lunch ~ sandwiches (peanut butter with jelly or honey, or turkey and cheese) with fresh fruits and veggies

Dinner ~ leftovers

Saturday:

Lunch ~ black bean quesadillas with fruit

Dinner ~ meatloaf, mashed potatoes, & green beans

What I spent this week:

Here is my receipt from Walmart this week. I had some extra money to spend, so I got a few splurge items that I don’t usually get!

Weekly Menus from Our Cozy Den ~ Feeding a family of 6 on under $250 a month!

Regular groceries: oatmeal, milk, tortillas, sour cream, green chiles, bread, tortilla chips

Splurge items: tea bags for iced tea, all beef premium hot dogs (the kids have been asking!), & gum

I also got for free from WIC this week: 1 dozen eggs, a bag of oranges, a package of raspberries, and a few bananas.

The total for my items came to $32.27. I was able to get everything for FREE though by using the credit I had saved up over the past year from using the Walmart Savings Catcher.

Here’s how it works if you don’t already use it: download the app (or create an account online here). After you shop at Walmart, open the app and scan each receipt. It will look at the items you got and see if they are on sale cheaper at all the surrounding stores. It will credit you the difference in your account, and you can cash it in for a gift card to spend in the store. SO easy! I have racked up quite a bit of credit by scanning receipts. I do price-match if I can, but this helps me catch anything I may have missed!

Have a great week everyone!
