THANKSGIVING!!!!! Need I say anything more, really? This has got to be one of my favorite weeks of the year. All of my favorite foods grace the table: turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, pumpkin bread, cranberry sauce, pie, pie, pie…. YUM. (I know, I know, I can’t even eat half of it now because of my PCOS, but I can still smell them!)
This week is a little weird, because I’m hardly cooking at all. We have a few holiday dinners to attend, a wedding & rehearsal dinner on the weekend, and we’ll have tons of Thanksgiving leftovers to eat up as well. So let’s look at the menu!
Again, a few notes before we get started:
- Breakfast is not included in the menu, because in our house it is fend-for-yourself. But it is included in my budget and shopping. We pretty much eat oatmeal & eggs every day, with the occasional variance.
- I recently did a post about my large once-a-month pantry shop. I try to plan most of my menu to use what we already have on hand in the pantry and freezer. Bulk buying = BIG savings!
- Snacks are also not on the menu, but my kids do get a snack each afternoon around 4 pm. Their choices are veggies (usually carrots and celery from my garden), fruit (I always have on hand a selection of oranges, bananas, apples, pineapple, berries, etc.), hard-boiled eggs, cheddar cheese sticks, yogurt, and granola bars.
Here’s what we are eating this week:
Lunch ~ leftovers
Dinner ~ cereal (yes, my family ate cereal. I’m not perfect, okay? 🙂 I was busy working on a project!
Lunch ~ Birthday Lunch for my hubby!
Dinner ~ fridge/pantry cleanout before all the Thanksgiving baking begins!
Lunch ~ black bean quesadillas with fruit
Dinner ~ dinner at my husband’s school
Lunch ~ sandwiches (peanut butter with jelly or honey, or turkey and cheese) with fresh fruits and veggies
Dinner ~ date night — my friend is feeding the kids and babysitting, and Byron and I are going to go see MOCKINGJAY!
All we’re eating today is the Thanksgiving smorgasbord: turkey, potatoes, stuffing, veggies, gravy, rolls, pie, and more!
Lunch ~ leftovers
Dinner ~ rehearsal dinner for my dad’s wedding
Lunch ~ more leftovers
Dinner ~ my dad’s wedding
What I spent this week:
Here is my receipt from Walmart this week. I had a few things on there that I don’t normally purchase, because of the holidays. I also got some GREAT deals by price-matching the Aldi ad.
Total spent this week: $24.56.
I’m excited for all the festivities! I hope everyone has a wonderful and blessed holiday!
