Weekly Menu: October 18th-24th

Weekly Menus from Our Cozy Den ~ Feeding a family of 6 on under $250 a month!

Last week ended up being miserable. Absolutely awful. I was sick almost the whole week, so I wasn’t up for cooking. My dear husband ended up scrounging up random dinners from the pantry, eating leftovers, making sandwiches, and ordering pizza once. The good news is that we still have almost all of the ingredients for the dinners I had planned, so those things all got shifted to this week instead.

Again, a few notes before we get started:

  • Breakfast is not included in the menu, because in our house it is fend-for-yourself. But it is included in my budget and shopping. We pretty much eat oatmeal & eggs every day, with the occasional variance.
  • I recently did a post about my large once-a-month pantry shop. I try to plan most of my menu to use what we already have on hand in the pantry and freezer. Bulk buying = BIG savings!
  • Snacks are also not on the menu, but my kids do get a snack each afternoon around 4 pm. Their choices are veggies (usually carrots and celery from my garden), fruit (I always have on hand a selection of oranges, bananas, apples, pineapple, berries, etc.), hard-boiled eggs, cheddar cheese sticks, yogurt, and granola bars.

Here’s what we are eating this week:

Sunday:

Lunch ~ sandwiches

Dinner ~ dinner at Grandma’s house

Monday:

Lunch ~ vegetable soup with crackers and homemade yogurt

Dinner ~ taco casserole

Tuesday:

Lunch ~ black bean quesadillas with fruit

Dinner ~ leftovers

Wednesday:

Lunch ~ sandwiches (peanut butter with jelly or honey, or turkey and cheese) with fresh fruits and veggies

Dinner ~ sautéed sausage, potatoes, & corn (with Italian seasoning)

Thursday:

Lunch ~ black bean quesadillas with fruit

Dinner ~ white chicken chili

Friday:

Lunch ~ vegetable soup with crackers and homemade yogurt

Dinner ~ leftovers

Saturday:

Lunch ~ sandwiches (peanut butter with jelly or honey, or turkey and cheese) with fresh fruits and veggies

Dinner ~ lasagna with salad and garlic bread

What I spent this week:

Like I said before – most of my groceries come from my big pantry shops at GFS. Here is my receipt from Walmart this week:

Weekly Menus from Our Cozy Den ~ Feeding a family of 6 on under $250 a month!
Cereal, milk, almond milk, yogurt, celery, tortillas, juice, beans, shredded cheese

My out-of-pocket total was $25.21 (half of that was the cheese). We were also blessed this week with several gifts from friends: several pounds of venison, a loaf of bread, a pound of butter, a pound of bacon, a bag of animal crackers, 4 loaves of pumpkin bread, and a bottle of vanilla extract. Gotta love free groceries!

Have a wonderful week!

If you ever want free bread, come to the Catalyst Church (620 Lynn St, it’s a former school building) on Thursdays from 5:15-7pm or until the bread is gone. We get bread and pastries donated from Panera on Wednesday nights (whatever they have leftover) so we give it away every Thursday to whoever comes to get it.
