Weekly Menu: October 11th-17th

Weekly Menus from Our Cozy Den ~ Feeding a family of 6 on under $250 a month!

I’m doing things a little differently this week! Usually, I do my big bulk shops at GFS, and all my weekly fill-in shops at Walmart. But this week I had an unbeatable coupon for potatoes from a local store (Great Scot), and there were a ton of great Aldi deals, so I decided to shop those stores instead! And since my Aldi is right next to GFS, I popped in there to buy my monthly bulk shop stuff at the same time.

So let’s check out what we’re eating this week and what I bought!

Again, a few notes before we get started:

  • Breakfast is not included in the menu, because in our house it is fend-for-yourself. But it is included in my budget and shopping. We pretty much eat oatmeal & eggs every day, with the occasional variance.
  • I recently did a post about my large once-a-month pantry shop. I try to plan most of my menu to use what we already have on hand in the pantry and freezer. Bulk buying = BIG savings!
  • Snacks are also not on the menu, but my kids do get a snack each afternoon around 4 pm. Their choices are veggies (usually carrots and celery from my garden), fruit (I always have on hand a selection of oranges, bananas, apples, pineapple, berries, etc.), hard-boiled eggs, cheddar cheese sticks, yogurt, and granola bars.

Here’s what we are eating this week:

Sunday:

Lunch ~ my dad came to town and took us out for lunch!

Dinner ~ leftovers (I try really hard to observe the Sabbath and not cook/clean on Sundays)

Monday:

Lunch ~ leftovers

Dinner ~ leftovers again {when I originally wrote my menu for the week, I had another meal plan… but then I got sick and couldn’t cook, so the family just ate more leftovers from the fridge. We had a TON from last week — I’m not sure how we ended up with so many!}

Tuesday:

Lunch ~ sandwiches (peanut butter with jelly or honey, or turkey and cheese) with fresh fruits and veggies

Dinner ~ spaghetti, made with veggie sauce and spaghetti-squash noodles, served with green beans and garlic bread

Wednesday:

Lunch ~ black bean quesadillas with fruit

Dinner ~ sautéed sausage, potatoes, & corn (with Italian seasoning)

Thursday:

Lunch ~ vegetable soup with homemade yogurt

Dinner ~ white chicken chili

Friday:

Lunch ~ sandwiches (peanut butter with jelly or honey, or turkey and cheese) with fresh fruits and veggies

Dinner ~ cauliflower crust pizza

Saturday:

Lunch ~ black bean quesadillas with fruit

Dinner ~ leftovers

What I spent this week:

Like I mentioned before, this week I sort of combined my monthly bulk shop and my weekly fill-in shop. I don’t know what happened to my Great Scot receipt, but I got two 10-pound bags of potatoes for $1.98 each, so I’ll add that to my totals below.

Weekly Menus from Our Cozy Den ~ Feeding a family of 6 on under $250 a month!

From GFS: 15 dozen eggs, 1 box of oatmeal packs. Total spent: $37.98

From Aldi: Oyster crackers, tortilla chips, canned pumpkin, oatmeal canisters, sugar, grapes, parmesan cheese, chicken breasts (on sale for $1.79/pound — that’s cheap for boneless, skinless breasts!), and milk. Total spent: $58.94

From Great Scot: potatoes. Total spent: $3.96

Grand total spent: $100.88
