Our Weekly Menu: July 19th-25th

Weekly Menus from Our Cozy Den ~ Feeding a family of 6 on under $250 a month!

I’m excited about the feedback I’ve been getting from you guys since I started posting my weekly menus! Many of you have reached out, stating that you’re implementing some of my techniques to save more on your grocery bills and still eat healthy!

Again, a few notes before we get started:

  1. Breakfast is not included in the menu, because in our house it is fend-for-yourself. The choices are oatmeal, eggs, or my homemade cereal.
  2. I recently did a post about my large once-a-month pantry shop. I try to plan most of my menu to use what we already have on hand in the pantry and freezer. Bulk buying = BIG savings! (PS: Click here to enter a giveaway for some free groceries at my favorite store!)
  3. Snacks are also not on the menu, but my kids do get a snack each afternoon around 4 pm. Their choices are veggies (usually carrots and celery), fruit (I always have on hand a selection of oranges, bananas, apples, pineapple, berries, etc.), hard-boiled eggs, cheddar cheese sticks, yogurt, and granola bars.

Sunday:

Lunch ~ sandwiches

Dinner ~ dinner out at our favorite Mexican place: 99¢ kids meals on Sundays!

Monday:

Lunch ~ vegetable soup

Dinner ~ zucchini spaghetti —  super veggie-packed dinner! (zucchini noodles, sauce with added veggies, and green beans on the side)

Tuesday:

Lunch ~ black bean quesadillas with fruit

Dinner ~ cube steaks with roasted potatoes & vegetables

Wednesday:

Lunch ~ *Home Ec Class, kids cook* “Croissant Feast” — which, in the recipe book, looks like croissant sandwiches with a sort of chicken-salad-with-veggies filling

Dinner ~ *Home Ec Class, kids cook* Spicy chicken burgers with salad

Thursday:

Lunch ~ sandwiches (peanut butter with jelly or honey, or turkey and cheese) with fruit

Dinner ~ leftovers

Friday:

Lunch ~ homemade lunchables (crackers, pepperoni, cheese, berries/apples, & carrots/celery) — eating on the go on Field Trip Friday

Dinner ~ bacon, egg, & cheese hash with Greens smoothies

Saturday:

Lunch ~ at a friend’s birthday party

Dinner ~ homemade pizza

What I spent this week:

Like I said before – most of my groceries come from my big pantry shops at GFS. Click here to enter my giveaway for a GFS gift card! I’m headed there again later this week for my July shop, so I’ll post that breakdown when I get it done.

These are my receipts from this week. I went to 2 stores this time, just picking up 2 things at Great Scot (you can’t beat $1.99 for 10 pounds of potatoes!)

This week’s receipts — Walmart: 5 dozen eggs, spinach, tortilla chips, bananas, apples, bacon, croissants, almond milk. Great Scot: potatoes, strawberries. Total spent: $34.41

Things I got for free from WIC this week: fresh produce (corn on the cob, zucchini, tomatoes, peppers), 2 loaves of bread, 1 gallon of milk, and 1 canister of oatmeal.
