Our Weekly Menu: July 12th-18th

Weekly Menus from Our Cozy Den ~ Feeding a family of 6 on under $250 a month!

I posted our first weekly menu breakdown last week, and I got lots of positive feedback from you guys! Here we go for week 2!

Again, a few notes before we get started:

  1. Breakfast is not included in the menu, because in our house it is fend-for-yourself. The choices are oatmeal, eggs, or my homemade cereal.
  2. I recently did a post about my large once-a-month pantry shop. I try to plan most of my menu to use what we already have on hand in the pantry and freezer. Bulk buying = BIG savings!
  3. Snacks are also not on the menu, but my kids do get a snack each afternoon around 4 pm. Their choices are veggies (usually carrots and celery), fruit (I always have on hand a selection of oranges, bananas, apples, pineapple, berries, etc.), hard-boiled eggs, cheddar cheese sticks, yogurt, and granola bars.

Lunch ~ vegetable soup

Dinner ~ leftovers from last week (I observe the Sabbath — no cooking on Sundays!)

Lunch ~ sandwiches (peanut butter with jelly or honey, or turkey and cheese) with fruit

Dinner ~ steak fajitas – with beans & brown rice

What I spent this week:

Like I said last week – most of my groceries come from my big pantry shops at GFS.

These are my receipts from Walmart this week. I spent $22.64 on my groceries. From WIC, I got 1 gallon of milk, 2 gallons of juice, 1 dozen eggs, plus produce: apples, carrots, celery, and bananas.

Weekly menus from Our Cozy Den ~ How we feed our family of 6 for under $250!
English Muffins, corn tortillas, curry powder, tortilla chips, pepperoni, and shredded cheese.

I spent $25.60 out of pocket, but I discovered when I got home that I didn’t need curry powder after all. I’ll return that, so my total will have ended up being $22.64. I feel dumb for not checking before I left, but nobody’s perfect!

I’m going to continue posting all of my receipts and menus every week, so you can all see what we buy and how we eat! Click here to see all of our past menus!
