Garmisch, Germany

When we were planning the in-laws’ visit, I asked them where they would like to go while they are here. They were also a military family many moons ago, and lived in Germany for quite a while, so they were already familiar with it. (Fun Fact: Finn is the third-generation military son born in Germany, as my husband and father-in-law were both born here while their fathers were stationed here.) Anyway, they requested that we go to Garmisch, an area in the mountains of Southern Germany. I had never been there before, but my husband had. I was excited to take this trip!

First I had to go searching for someplace to stay for a group our size. Hotel rooms are not really an option for us any more, now that we have 4 kids. I could barely get any sleep with 1 or 2 kids in the room with me, so forget it with 4. I found this gorgeous little rental apartment on www.homeaway.com. It was just as amazing as the photos!

The view from our balcony — isn’t it breathtaking??
We also got to see dozens on parasailers land in the field by the house while we were there.
View of the mountains from lying in the bed in the master bedroom (where my in-laws slept, along with Sophie in a pack’n’play).
On the path near the house where I went running every day. I ran 3 out of our 4 days there. It was the first time I’ve ever exercised on vacation!
The kids loved jumping on the trampoline at the house. I’ve already decided that’s going to be one of our first purchases when we get back stateside.
Catching up with old friends — we got to see Joseph, a friend we hadn’t seen in 7 years, since I was pregnant with Connor!
While in Garmisch, we also visited the Olympic stadium, site of the 1936 Winter Olympics.

Garmisch is an adorable town in a beautiful area! And it’s centrally located to visit many other places, like Neuschwanstein Castle, Oberammergau, and Austria. Stay tuned for more!
